Timmy the Turtle took a dip in the pond!

  Timmy

So, the other day, we were outside after my hubby came home from work, and Timmy the Turtle decides to take a dip in the pond. Don’t worry, box turtles have built in floatation devices in their shells (God thinks of everything) and they just float and paddle. He and Tommy the Turtle have been swimming before, but this time we had the camera handy. You never know what interesting things animals will do! It’s best to be prepared.

We’ve been having fun watching our black goldfish turn orange

My hubby built me a goldfish pond a year ago spring. After it was established, we bought Rick and Ilsa who had babies shortly thereafter. Goldfish are black when they are babies, and they gradually turn orange (or white in the case of our albino, Casper). We still have three or four of the black goldfish. Every time one starts to turn orange we have fun watching the process day by day. We also get to find out if they will have any spots of white. If they have spots, we can tell them from the other fish.

We like to give them names based upon their markings. One of them has a stripe of white over its back, like a saddle. We named him Trigger (Roy Rogers fans will get this one). One has face markings like a raccoon, so we call him Rocky (Beatles fans will get that one). The latest to turn orange has a patch of white on his head that looks like a full head of white hair, so I named him Tony after Tony Bennett.

It’s just something silly we like to do after a hard day at the office — sit on the park bench, look at the pond, and give names to the fish.

I love to sit in my backyard and be in awe of God’s creation. Even watching my goldfish is an act of worship, as far as I’m concerned.

Pictures of my crocheted animals!

Well, once I realized I was a "middle aged lady" I thought I had better make it official and learn to knit and crochet. Here’s a picture of a few of my crocheting successes. The koala bear was the first crocheted toy I ever made! I was really proud of myself. I bought a beginning crocheting book, and this pattern was in the book. Not bad for a first-timer, huh?

If you would like to make the koala bear, here’s a link to the book I used: I Can’t Believe I’m Crocheting! If you want to make the elephant or monkey, here’s a link to the book I used: Noah’s Ark For Baby

My Crocheted Pets!

I also learned to knit socks. All my life, I thought knitting socks was an unattainable skill. It looked just too dang complicated. But, like I said, once I realized I was a middle aged lady, I thought it was now or never. I surfed the internet and found a place with easy instructions. Hurray for me!

In case you, too, want to learn to knit socks, here is the site where I learned to knit socks: The Essence of Socks. Good luck! If I can do it, you can do it, too!

Be aware of the Spaces Code of Conduct

Hi everybody,

I have learned first hand that Spaces has a zero tolerance policy on at least some violations of the Code of Conduct: (http://spaces.live.com/coc.aspx ) We all agreed to this Code when we got our space.

I accidentally came across a space that was blatantly in violation of the Code of Conduct. It was listed in the "Updated Spaces" module and the title was very blatantly obvious. It was advertising hard core pornography and phone sex and had a lot of porn photographs. I clicked on the Report Abuse button and reported it. Later that day, I got an email from Microsoft Customer Support thanking me for letting them know about it, and saying that the space had been deleted. It actually was gone!

Before you jump down my throat for being a prude, please realize I am risking what you think of me to pass along this information. I’m not a vigilante who is going to go around looking for violations and turn in people. That’s not what this is about.

All I’m saying is that if you put up content that is against the rules your space could get deleted without warning. They say this in the Code, and now I know that they are dead serious when they say it:

"Termination and Cancellation

Microsoft reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to review and remove user-created services and content at will and without notice, and delete postings or ban participants that are deemed objectionable."

I’m still working on my space

The Windows Live Writer has spoiled me. Therefore, I’m redoing a bunch of stuff. Why? Because I can! I love being able to format text quickly and easily.

Life with parrots. By X

Rufus the Wonder Bird

Rufus the Wonder Bird making a silly face

I was just thinking about what Life With a Parrot is like. I just came up with a short list. I’ll be adding to it as time goes by. You other parrot lovers will know what I’m talking about:

When you live with a parrot:

  • You always have somebody to talk to who will answer you back
  • You always have somebody to tell you what to do
  • You always have somebody to clean up after
  • You always have funny things to laugh at
  • You always have somebody to laugh with you at the things you find funny on TV
